Let Your Voice Be Heard!

The LTA has been instrumental in causing improvements in town government and helping to promote good, sound decisions that affect the taxpayers in Lincoln, such as:

  • Finally getting Twin River Road litter picked up by DOT personnel after writing letters to the editor and issuing press releases

  • Bringing to light the fact that the town did not have an official chief of police for almost 6 months, resulting in the appointing of our new

          Chief Brian Sullivan.

  • The LTA was first formed as a challenge to the former Lincoln Park, to keep it in check and to stop its ever expanding prescence in town.  We are confident our ceaseless public comment, letters to the editor and communication with our councilmen led to the formation of the recent referendum which finally let Smith Hill know where the voters of Lincoln stand on this insidious expansion of gambling....WE ARE AGAINST IT!!!

  • 3205 voters came out to express their feelings and showed an overwhelming rejection of 24 hour operations and table games.

  • Lobbying to keep new ballfields from being contructed on Angell Rd.
  • Holding an open forum for the people to meet all the candidates running for office the week before the election

This is the first time in town history all the candidates were present in one

         room to debate the issues

  • Defeating a proposed sewer connection by a Smithfield business to the Lincoln sewer system, which could overtax the existing and projected useage
  • Insisting that the previous Town Administrator be responsible for her actions which led to her not seeking re-election
  • Bringing together all representatives of all six fire districts for the first time at our January 19 meeting to discuss the efficiency and future consolidation of the Fire Department
  • Getting public comment at Town meetings changed from the very end of the meetings to the beginning so that interested parties would not be kept waiting until late in the evening.
  • Pressuring the Council to allow the agenda to be amended on the spot in order to respond to an issue brought up by a member of the public
  • Working with the fire department to collect AND distribute donations to Hurricane Katrina victems
  • Initiating and performing a clean up of Cobble Hill Road, a major access route to Lincoln Park
  • Ongoing...working to keep Camp Meehan pristine and undeveloped...
  • Motivating and inspiring members to run for political office including former LTA President Ed O'Neill and frequent LTA contributor Dean Lees
  • Providing contact information to the public via our website for our town officials
  • Providing an open forum for members to speak up about their concerns and post their letters to our website

Councilman Jim Jahnz has introduced an ordinance to bring back public comment at the workshop meetings held Monday, prior to the town meetings.  We commend Councilman Jahnz for helping the LTA fulfill its year long quest to acheive this goal, one of the very reasons that led to our founding in September of 2005.  We have "lobbied" for this change over a year both in the press and vocally at town meetings via public comment.
