Established originally in the 1940's as a horse track, local Rhode Islanders would enjoy 2 or 3 matinees a week and evening horse races at the original facility owned by B.A. Dario.
After falling into disfavor in the late 1980's, Lincoln Park was converted to greyhound racing and reopened as Lincoln Greyhound Park.
After being sold to BLB Investors, the race track added video lottery terminals in the form of slot machines. Renamed Twin River, the casino soon turned into the third largest slot parlor in the country, outshadowing Vegas and Atlantic City casinos.....right in our hometown of Lincoln, RI.
Every attempt at expansion was either voted down by the residents or vocally opposed at town meetings but everything the Twin River owners asked for was granted: huge additions to the building, new intrusive, high intensity lighting, 24 hour gaming hours, several restaurants and a sports arena and even "virtual" blackjack with video imagery "dealers"...all to exploit the weaknesses of those from outside our community who come to Lincoln to indulge their habit.
